Coast to Coast 2008 - The Venue

Darwin Convention Centre

In mid 2008 Darwin, the Northern Territory’s capital city, will proudly open the doors to its first world class, purpose built and architecturally spectacular convention centre. With confirmed bookings to 2011, the Centre is already making its mark in the international and national convention scene.

From its waterfront location on the edge of Australia’s largest harbour, the Darwin Convention Centre is the jewel in the crown of the Northern Territory’s AU$1 billion waterfront development that will see 25 hectares of land transformed into restaurants, hotels, apartments, wave lagoon, marina, gardens and public art.

With a 1500 seat plenary capacity, to a total of 12 meeting rooms and 4000 square metres of exhibition space the multipurpose convention centre will feature flexible spaces to cater for banquets, conventions and exhibitions as well as concerts and indoor sporting events.

On the edge of the Arafura sea, Australia's most northern capital city, Darwin, is as close to Singapore as it is to Sydney with both reached just as easily. Darwin's International Airport offers direct flights from Asia and all major cities in Australia.

Darwin's colour vibrancy and energy exude from its people, with over 50 nationalities represented in a population of 100,000. The city is progressive and booming with a rich Aboriginal and European history. It boasts first class restaurants, a wide range of accommodation and distinctive attractions such as the Mindil Beach night markets and the Outdoor Deckchair Cinema. Other top attractions are the Aboriginal art and culture, Aviation Heritage Museum, fishing safaris, pearling history, pristine waterfalls and National Parks, sunset harbour cruises, wildlife parks, World Heritage Kakadu National Park and World War II Tunnels.

Home to the Larrakia people, Darwin is the gateway to the outback, the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park, the spectacular waterfalls of Litchfield National Park and Katherine Gorge. All this adds up to a truly inique and memorable experience for national and international convention delegates.
